What specific experiences (honors or otherwise) in the past year have had the most impact on your personal, academic, or professional goals and life trajectory? Which future experiences will further encourage this growth? Please articulate specific academic and/or professional goals for the next year.
This past year, I have had several experiences that have had a great impact on my personal and academic goals. First off, moving to Cincinnati for college was a big adjustment for me. I tend to think of myself as a pretty family-oriented individual, so being away from my family for long periods of time was new to me. I also had to learn to be content with being alone more frequently. When living at home, I found myself trying to seek alone time as I was always surrounded by people, but this year at UC I had to learn how to be more independent and take advantage of the alone time that I frequently had. Another part of my personal life that is very significant to me is dance. This year, I was given the opportunity to perform at Disney World at dance, and this was the first time an Indian Classical dance group had performed there, so it was such an honor to present my culture and passion to a diverse audience. I also made steps to start an Indian Classical dance club at UC with my friends. The club will be up and running by next semester, so I hope that we get to share our love for dance with other people at UC! Dance has been a huge part of my life for so long, so being a part of such accomplishments means a lot to me in regard to my culture and it seems as though my hard work as a dancer is paying off. Academically, taking the Children’s Media Social Justice honors seminar had a significant impact on my academic goals as it taught me a lot about the various social injustices in the world, which is beneficial to know about with the career path that I would like to follow. We also had a museum exhibit to showcase our projects to the public, and I learned a lot about how to present to an audience and how to be approachable to the public, which I feel is crucial to know in order to succeed in any career. Professionally, I was given the opportunity to participate in both Dementia and Myeloma research. Both of these research projects will contribute to early detection and treatment of both diseases, which is very beneficial to society and this experience is very valuable for my future as I wish to become a Physician. Learning how to obtain research for treatments and early detection now can help me in the future when finding treatments for other diseases, etc.
Future experiences that will further encourage my personal growth include taking the dance club to a competitive level and also caring for my mental health because none of my goals will efficiently be reached if I am not at my best mentally! Academically, I will continue to take honors classes that will give me a new perspective and teach me as much as Children’s Media did. Next year, I plan on taking Intro to Public Health and Epidemiology courses, which will expose me to public health and will help me learn more about the healthcare system. Professionally, next year I hope to become a Medical Scribe and shadow doctors abroad, which will give me clinical experience and also see how the healthcare system operates in different countries.

In what way(s) did you personally grow this year? How did you demonstrate or rebuild the resilience needed to move forward? How will you utilize resources and your support network to hold yourself accountable in continuing this growth?
This year was one of the hardest and best years of my life. I learned a lot about myself and had several experiences where I was able to make self-discoveries. This year I also learned to lean on my friends and family and know that I'm not alone in my struggles. One of my main developments this year was realizing and accepting the fact that I no longer want to go into medicine. This has been a lingering thought in my mind for longer than I would like to admit, and this year I finally accepted the fact that this is no longer something I am passionate about and worked up the courage to tell my parents about this. Thankfully, they, along with my friends, were very supportive of this decision and have helped me in several ways, from helping me find careers that I could potentially enjoy to simply telling me that I do not need everything figured out right away. I plan to continue doing my own research to explore career paths that I am passionate about with the help of the people who have helped me tremendously throughout the year. I also traveled a lot this year, for school, dance, and for leisure. I got to explore so many different cultures and places that I fell in love with. Through this experience, I learned that I love to travel and would love to incorporate this into my career/academics somehow, whether it is through studying or interning abroad. I will use resources provided to me through UC to hopefully make this happen.
